Wildlife Alliance Ranger Anti -Poaching Patrol (2 hours) Guests that share our passion for protecting the precious natural environment might find themselves joining Wildlife Alliance rangers motorcycling through the forest on anti-poaching patrols. Funded by The Shinta Mani Foundation, the camp’s ranger station enables the non- profit Wildlife Alliance to carry out vital conservation work in the area, including protecting animals from poaching, removing snares, protecting the National Park from encroachment and stopping illegal logging. We are the front lines of Conservation.
Research Walk With Our Naturalists (2.5 hours) Join our naturalist on a walk through the rainforest to learn about the research and conservation initiatives we are taking at WILD. Check motion-detecting camera traps that we have positioned in the jungle to learn more about the fauna with which we share our home. We have set up some feeding stations high in the canopy to attract gibbons and other primates. Inspect them and hear first hand from the Naturalists what we fill them with and what we hope to learn from having them there. If you are interested, ask to see some of the images that we have collected so far.
Jungle Trekking (1-8 hours) The 800 acres that comprises WILD sits within the 4.5 million acres of the Southern Cardamom National Park. The opportunities are endless and are only limited by what you want to do. From easy walks on riverside trails on the WILD property to full day, hardcore slogs into the Cardamom interior our Bensley Adventure Butlers will happily guide you on the adventure of your choosing. These guys crave adventure so don’t
be shy to challenge them and yourselves.
Mountain Biking (1-3 hours) WILD and the surrounding jungles have mountain biking opportunities for riders of all skill levels. Looking for a virgin run on a forest single track or perhaps a less arduous ride through a Khmer village, our Adventure Butlers love getting out on two wheels. About an hour drive from the Camp is the Kirirom Reservoir that offers a challenging uphill ride and an exhilarating downhill sprint.
Night Walk (1-2 hours)For the curious ones amongst us, intrigued by the nocturnal members of the WILD family that we share these jungles with, why not try heading out after dark. Equipped with specialized lights and nocturnal animal audio clips, venture north toward some of our more remote tents and loop back around the quieter jeep trails. If we are lucky we may see civet cats, night jars, owls and possibly a few new species. We recommend these walks to take place around 9pm.
Forest Foraging (1-2 hours) Discover and taste Cambodia’s natural larder in the company of our WILD Chef and outdoorsmen team who are expert foragers in a new way to experience the forest. Our Chef will guide you through the forest on a daily forage explaining and tasting ingredients and some unexpected flavors. He will be grateful for the help in filling his basket of goodies for the foraged tasting dinner.
Expedition Boat (4-8 hours)(Seasonal) Nautical types can take to the water aboard our custom built expedition boats which are ideal for exploring the secret backwaters of the upper Srey Ambel Estuary and connecting waterways. In true Bensley fashion the expeditions boats have every comfort from day beds to spot birds from and sun beds on the roof to get the ideal perspective. The boat moves its base depending on water levels and is currently moored a 45 minutes drive from the camp. Early risers are treated to a sunrise breakfast either on board or on a secluded beach. If sleeping in is more your thing enjoy a drink watching the colors change as the sun sets on another day of adventure. For the fitness junkies why not try mountain biking to the boat and avoid the drive? Be warned the bike ride is not for the faint hearted.
WILD Cocktails/Mocktails (1-2 hours) Ever wanted to learn to build, stir, muddle or shake up a sexy cocktail? Either a classic or something new to call your own? If so our WILD Mixologist is the man you need to meet. Learn the finer art to the perfect Negroni or start carbonating and infusing flavors to invent the next item on the WILD signature cocktail list.
Kayaking (2.5 hours)(Seasonal) The Southern Cardamom Wilderness has some of the highest annual rainfall in the region. All that
water drains off to the Gulf of Thailand through a massive system of rivers and estuaries creating many opportunities for flat water kayaking. We explored this region for several years prior to opening WILD and have only scratched the surface of the different kayaking routes available. Your best opportunities for bird watching are along these barely used routes where the rare encounter with a fisherman will surely be a surprise and delight. Your options are only limited by water levels and your curiosity.
Tenkara Fishing (1-3 hours)(Seasonal) Tenkara fishing is the ancient art of Japanese meditation fly fishing. Unknown outside of Japan until this decade, Tenkara fishing is one of the most popular ways to fish the small streams and pools in the mountainous region of Japan. The appeal of Tenkara is its elegant simplicity. There are also other advantages of using the long Tenkara rods when fishing in mountain streams, primarily the lightness of the line and delicate presentation. A long rod allows for precise placement of the fly on small pools and allows for holding the fly in place on the other side of a current. Spend a few hours with our Mongolian fishing guide, quietly fishing the many streams as you contemplate the beauty of the forest. All fishing is strictly catch and release.
Build a Terrarium (1-2 hours) With the lush green season, we see many small plants and vibrant moss bursting full of life and decorating the forest. Our Adventure Bensley Butlers and their crafty hands are skilled at molding these plants into a terrarium. Join them on a forage for these mini plants and express your own form of creativity to build your own ecosystem.
Spa Treatments and Wellness Programs All of this adventuring calls for some well- deserved rest and relaxation. Step up to the Boulder Spa, where chemical-free treatments feature Khmer Tonics products, many are made from medicinal plants foraged from the rainforest or grown in our Spa Garden and prepared onsite. Living up to its name, the spa’s treatment rooms are set amid dramatic natural boulders and forest; or opt to have a foot massage in one of the river pools. The river always takes centre-stage.
